on another forum, Gina introduced us to the poo bus... There is one currently running in the Bristol area and it runs on human waste... This is much better for the environment, producing less harmful emissions in comparison to the diesel equivalent. http://www.geneco.uk.com/biobug/biobus.aspx This is a link to the site about the bus. i have been thinking about the environmental impact of our journeys in another post...and I think that if I travel by the least environmentally hazardous...

I have been thinking about when I go shopping I like to buy fair trade and if possible organic .... I know it is better for my health and for the environment. I recognise that choice may come with an additional cost, but when you know it's for the greater good, it's easier to accept.   Thinking about the post regarding carbon credits, I have been thinking that it can be really difficult at times to know if my journey is the best for the environment... I may be going by train, etc, but the...

This is a map which has been prepared by the Consumer Data Research Centre from data supplied by the 2011 National Census on how people commuted to work http://maps.cdrc.ac.uk/#/metrics/traveltowork/default/BTTTFTT/11/-0.0197/51.4589/ It made me think... this sort of data can be used to identify where there are weak spots... it can help those who are in charge of transport networks see the types of journeys and where they need to funnel money.. and also think about how to encourage...

A few times over the past weeks I have had in my head Pac man! I keep thinking of the little yellow dot chomping its way round a grid. Think instead of pac man, a car or bus - driverless - even google are working on this concept of a driverless car. My concept works a bit like a lift system... when you call for a lift by pressing a button, the lift will eventually come to you depending on other people pressing buttons. So, what if you press a button, and the nearest Pac Man car that...

When I had my first car, I had any driver insurance... it wasn't that much more expensive than other insurances, and it meant if I went out with my mates, if when we were out, I decided to drink and a mate decided not to, we would swap drivers on the way home... in fact one time I broke my glasses while we were out, so someone else had to drive home!! But it also meant, someone else could borrow my car, I just asked them to put a bit of fuel back in the car if they were going some...

I keep thinking about my holidays and ways I've travelled or seen others travel while I've been away, and think how this could be translated. Last time I went to the beach on Denmark's North Sea Coast, I couldn't believe my eyes... there was a long line of people on Segways on the sandy beach... I hadn't realised that they were so versatile! Everyone was smiling and really enjoying themselves. I think one of the issues about commuting is that many of the alternatives for commuting that...

How many times have you walked past the remains of a bike chained to the railings... when I say the remains of a bike... something has been stolen - a wheel, the saddle, poor locking has meant a poor cyclist returns to find his bike ruined. The reason - bike parts are expensive, and someone can make money on bike parts as well as the whole bike. In the Netherlands and Denmark I have seen amazing bike parks in cities and at train stations.. bikes parked securely, have guards ensuring your...

My mum is Danish... I have travelled on Danish trains when all around is thick snow... what is more, the train didn't just run, it ran on time! I have been in London when it has snowed, and had vast difficulties getting home... so many trains cancelled, in fact, some of colleagues have ended up staying in hotels as they just couldn't get home when it snowed. When we have weather like snow, I want to enjoy it, I want to enjoy my travel, enjoy looking at the snow through the train / car...

My husband is able to use his company pass to use buses in the local area during office work hours... this free service is for buses operating between the towns where his company has offices. The offer is only for during office hours and a little lee way either side for commuting. My husband uses it from time to time... it depends on when meetings start/ finish as whether he can use this or not.. Some in his office use it all the time - so it gets well used and is a great way to bus...

Thinking about Ironmaiden's comments about business cars, I thought I would explain what happens with my husband's car. He has a business lease car... with this car he has been allocated a certain number of business miles and we pay for personal miles. Each car to be tax effective should be as lower car tax as possible - indicating low emissions - we pay £0 car tax on our car, as it has low emissions! When  he is driving on business, if anyone else is going to the same meeting or same...

Bio I used to live in London and commute from the suburbs into the city for work. I now live in one of the most rural parts of England and Wales - in mid Wales. So I've moved from one end of the spectrum to the other. I have travelled the globe, and seen many sights. Have taken up cycling in the last 4 years.
