Lots of Ideas are about the liftee personally paying for the lift in some way or another. Let's consider arranging the whole thing so liftee doesn't have to. What about the car maker giving you points towards a new version of the car you drive (in the fullness of time) for giving lots of lifts in it. Not sure how this would work exactly - some kind of weight sensor in the car seats? Everyone wins. Or perhaps a particular petrol company gives money off the petrol for giving lifts - the petrol...

With an early commute you are always half asleep - why not design a train so it's comfortable to sleep - stack people up in Japanese style capsules and let them snooze - or at least provide a chair that has something to support your head while you slumber - airlines too. Maybe you can programme the chair to jolt you awake 10 mins before your station? zzzzzzzzz Image - sleepy head by Lolla Moon from Flickr.com

Woke up with this idea, maybe there's already a scheme like this? - but when an old person is too old to drive, independence is lost, but somewhere near may be a young person who can't afford a car but needs one - a happy car share? I'm not sure how this would work or happen, see what you think! These ladies are from The Arches, Govern and look like they are out having fun - from Flickr

I was just listening to this http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06zh6n8 radio 4 short prog about anthropology. The anthopologist was following around a mother and nine year old son for the day. She siad the only time they had a decent conversation with each other was when they were in the car together.  I think that's right, really nice to be the car space with someone, or a few people you like - you have time to interact, have important conversations away from distractions. Not a good place...

This isn't my image, (I got it from Flickr, it's by Evgeni Zotov and called Ankara ) but I wanted to talk about busses in Turkey in the late 80s when I visited.   Each place had a bus station, and they seemed like total chaos to me at the time, but there was a big or a small bus (I think they were called dolmush?) all seemed like privately run busses, and you could get a bus to anywhere you wanted. Cheaply too. It didn't feel particularly regulated and I can't remember how you reserched...

This is going to sound like a disaster, but I'm putting it in the success challenge although it took 12 hours to get from London to Glasgow (normal time 4 and a half hours). Read on... Journey was normal to the lake district area - past Oxenholm. Then the dreaded delays...then the news that the track was flooded (it was aboslutely chucking it down outside) then after a long while, the train reverses back to Oxenholm, then the hour on the platform after we were turfed out of the train....
