Ok,  it took me to the age of 27 to go on my first plane jouney.  Sounds crazy to most people in this day and age, I know.  But the concern for me has always been the logistics of getting on and off a plane without any problems, due to my physical disability. Also, I have a very bespoke wheelchair, so I knew I would not be able to hire something at my destination and that my 'tank' as it is referred to would have to accompany me.   We had looked into alternatives, sailing out, but that was...

In 2012, we went to NYC and needed to get to the World Trade Centre from Broadway. We decided to have a try at using the subway, which we thought was going to be a fool's errand as I use a heavy motorised wheelchair and have yet to manage using the underground successfully in the UK.  I can't speak for all the subway lines ease of access, as we only used once, but it turned out to be a pretty easy experience getting on and off the trains.  No gap or step from platform to train.  The only...

You may think that this is a strange title for a journey success. Well when we were on a cruise round Iceland and Faroe Islands, we weren't able to port at Torshavn in the Faroes as the weather was so bad, however, we did port at Klaksvik, which is not really a tourist place at all, nothing really to see! When we got home we were able to make a claim on our travel insurance, we made sure that the company covered 'missed port' and 'change of itinerary'. Due to this, we were able to claim back...

When we went to Tenerife we went on a whale and boat watching trip. We saw whales and dolphins in the sea, it was amazing. I love dolphins and seeing them in the wild is really special. Definitely a successful trip! Also saw a whale and dolphins on our cruise round Portugal last year. It's so wonderful seeing the dolphins jumping out the water.

A few years ago I was flying to Islay in the Western Isles from Glasgow. It was an early morning flight and it was not until the flight was called that I realised that I was the only passenger apart from the postman! I felt like I was on my own private plane. The cabin person was very nice and we had a good laugh with the postman and the short flight passed very quickly. I can't imagine that the airline could afford to fly with that level of passengers regularly but I'm thankful that they...

What with all this travelling I thought I would put up a post about ATOL and ABTA protection. You don't realise the full importance of these unless you have a bad experience or nearly do! We had our Norway cruise booked, however, a couple of months before we were due to go, the company that we had booked with went went into administration. Thankfully because it was protected we were still able to go!

This is not a travel journey, but a journey of a different type. My journey from joining this great website and meeting so many kind and helpful people has been amazing, from starting at the bottom of the leaderboard and with the support and kind words from the members I have reached the top 10, an unbelievable rise.  I wish to thank all the friends and supporters for your help and comments. To quote a phrase "upwards and onwards" (Buzz lightyear from Toy Story) THANK YOU ukwombat (Cam)

When we were at Akureyi in Iceland, one of our port stops on a cruise, we decided that we would rent a car, then follow the coaches! Our plan played out well, the coach trip would have cost about £80 more. Plus we got a lot longer at the sights than the poor people on the coach. They weren't impressed as they didn't have long to look at the sights at each stop after they had waited in the long toilet queues.

I used to travel to Preston from Birmingham with my husband when he had his uni lectures. It was great fun and gave me some nice quiet reading time. Our train back left Preston at about 9.20pm. It was often quiet on the train. The one time there was just my husband and me on the carriage, we decided that we would make paper aeroplanes and throw them down the carriage. It was great fun and the train manager thought that it was very amusing!
